GENESIS
Artist; Penny Hood
Materials: Handmade Papers, Elmer's Glue and Pastels
Halfway through my life I came to see my own small boat on the waters.
I had been trying to direct other boats by will, by proxy, by sheer determination.
I had limited success and, of course, neglected my own craft. As I emerged
from the fog of my misdirection, I rediscovered my bearings and allowed
my personal vision to take form.
I began this piece on a table in my bedroom. It was there each night,
waiting to come out of the fog. The process was slow and lovely. It was
nurturing, and affirmed my sense of place in the world. The circle emerged
as I pasted the papers onto the paper.

PENNY HOOD
Autobiographical Statement |
I aim for balance and arrive with questions. I shoot for the moon
and land among the stars. I thrive on good conversation, stimulating topics,
and exploration of all kinds. I love my family beyond common sense at times,
and often have to chart course corrections and set goals to keep myself
grounded. I am getting better at seeing the big picture and my own place
in it.
I am 45, the mother of two unique and creative teenage boys, and in partnership
with a wonderful man. I am also a full-time student in a master's program
at Goddard College in Psychology and Counseling, and a NEATI Certificate
Program participant. We have three cats, a dog, a 1956 Ford Pickup, too
many projects, and lives absolutely worth living. |
